Game Art Experimentation

Topic

This course was about designing assets for games. Both 2D and 3D. Each of the students drew a card for each task with random word combinations on them that we needed to create certain assets for. The type of asset and what I had on my cards is described in the title above each section.

Potions: Mountainclimber on his way up Mount Everest

As part of this assignment, we were tasked with designing four potions that would activate key actions or traits for a fictional game character. These actions/traits included Hope (motivation), Pause (take a break), Poison (end the game), Strength (power to go on). Each student had to align these potions with a specific character; mine was a mountain climber on Mount Everest. To cater to the climber, power and motivation potions were designed to be accessible without using hands. The pause potion was designed as a one-hand syringe, while the poison required both hands to use, having the character find a secure spot. This design discourages frequent use of the poison.

These are the first sketches I made of the different potions.

And I animated one of them.

Flamingo Run:

Continuing the Game Art course, I developed a game inspired by the "Chrome Dino" game. I randomly picked a card featuring a flamingo on a sunny beach and created assets for this theme. Then I implemented the logic and the assets into the Godot engine to make the game.

This is the basic flamingo running animation.

These are all the sprites including the different variants for states like jumping and hitting an obstacle.

Here's an example run of the game.

Bakery Level

I created a small mockup for a parkour level where a rabbit tries to steal food in a bakery and escape before the timer runs out.
